The Rhineland covers a part of western Germany, along the Rhine River. Having served as one of Europe’s most important waterways, the region now has plenty of world-class vineyards, hilltop castles, and well-preserved medieval towns. You can find over 500 palaces in Rhineland-Palatinate, sample quality wine in the Moselle region, and take a river cruise through the Rhine Gorge.
The Rhineland is quite easy to explore, thanks to a rail system that connects the area’s picturesque villages, many of which date back to Roman times. Cruising the Rhine River is also a popular way of experiencing this large region. If you’re up for an adventure, go for a hike on the Rheinburgenweg Trail, between Bingen and Remagen in the Rhine Valley.
