Castlefield Urban Heritage Park is home to an extensive array of historical sites and features all set within a well-maintained conservation area you can visit. You'll find a Roman fort, the first modern canal in Britain and the site of Manchester's industrial boom.
Visitors interested in history will find plenty to explore here, but you can also simply enjoy the well-maintained walkways, landscaped open spaces and relaxing restaurants. You'll find quite a few landmarks you won't want to miss out on during your visit. The Bridgewater Canal is among the most popular, with the impressive bridge and scenic walkways next to it. You can also explore the warehouses of Castlefield restored to resemble their 19th-century appearance.
This park is home to Mamucium, a Roman fort that was founded in the year 79. While the entire fort is no longer present, you can still see a portion of its wall along with its ancillary buildings like the gatehouse and the granary. You're free to explore them all during your visit.
Good to know when visiting Castlefield Urban Heritage Park
If you plan on driving yourself to this park, you may find yourself a bit short on parking spaces. You'll find street parking nearby, but it can be a bit costly. Even if you're willing to pay, you may not be able to find an open spot, as they're fairly limited. Some of the car parks around Deansgate Tram Station are more affordable and are still within walking distance.
Visiting this park will put you close to several other exciting destinations as well. You can visit The Crystal Maze just to the north as well as the Science and Industry Museum.
