The Victoria Baths complex is a historic site and traditional Turkish bath complex with swimming pools and bathing areas. The complex was opened in 1906 by Henry Price and designed as a leisure facility for the city’s residents, serving the city for over 86 years.

Though the complex’s baths closed in 1993, the historic building is open to the public for self-guided and guided tours and special events to see the original architectural details and decor. The complex hosts a variety of events for children as well, including educational and creative workshops.

Highlights of the Victoria Baths

The construction of the Victoria Baths was supervised by Henry Price, the city’s first architect, and designed by the city surveyor and his assistant. When originally opened, the Victoria Baths complex was described as a ‘water palace’ by the Lord Mayor of Manchester. The facade features multicoloured brickwork and terracotta details with beautiful stained-glass windows in the interior.

The complex featured private baths, laundry facilities, swimming pools and a traditional Turkish bath. Later, a sauna was included in the facility’s amenities. In winter, the pool was closed and the complex was used as a dance hall. Currently, the complex is used for historic tours and occasional social events.
