Dubrovnik overlooks the Adriatic Sea in southern Croatia, and its Old Town is one of the most beautiful in the world. Encircled by 10th-century walls, its labyrinthine streets are pleasant places to wander, and many of its historical buildings are still in remarkably great shape. The Stradun is the main thoroughfare – an elegant strip full of cafes and stately buildings. The Square of the Loggia is a popular meeting spot, featuring the Loggia of the Bells which dates from 1480. History lovers should make the trip to Fort Lovrijenac, which also hosts Dubrovnik’s famed Summer Festival.
