My stay in the apartment in Riad 91 was a unique experience. The Riad is inside the Medina, which offers an unusual experience. Plenty of noise, curious merchants, and the expected street conditions in a 2nd world country. This doesn’t faze me, as if I’d wanted a 1st world hotel, I’d have stayed at the Marriott up the street. My room was comfortably furnished with Moroccan furniture and textiles, clean and rather gorgeously painted. It’s my day of arrival in Morocco after 2 flights from the West coast of the USA, so sleeping wasn’t an issue. The Riad has a pleasant and moderately priced restaurant on the roof, and includes a continental breakfast along with olives and tahini. I found the place with little difficulty due to excellent directions sent by the staff. I took a grand taxi from the airport (300 dh) and the driver used google maps to get to the closest entrance (no cars allowed in Medina but watch out for motorcycles). Riad 91’s best feature is the staff: night desk Osama, day desk Hareema (?), and great waiter for breakfast. Very accommodating and go out of their way to help. Osama carried my suitcase up the spiral stairs to the 2nd floor apartment, which was welcome. This place is an historic building and there are steep steps and no elevator. Another guest told me the basement hammam is good. Only here one night. Should I be I. Casablanca again I’ll stay here.
