"Sam House" is the home of a very friendly and helpful local named Sam who speaks excellent English and who rents out several rooms in his old, quirky rowhouse. I stayed there for 6 days in May 2018. The house has no elevator and has steep stairs. Each room is unique. The "city duplex" in the attic is the best in the house, with views on three sides and a private full bathroom. To reach the room (and to get to and from the private bathroom from the room) you have to climb a very narrow, steep staircase -- this is not for the claustrophobic, overweight, or broad-shouldered! There are two or three other guest rooms in the house, which share two bathrooms (3 showers and 2 toilets total). The showers are excellent -- plenty of hot water and strong water pressure. There's also a kitchen with a fridge, freezer, and burners, and a washing machine and drying rack. No TVs. I stayed in the room on the ground floor, which has no view but is sparsely but adequately furnished. All of the rooms except the attic are spacious and have high ceilings. Most of them are a bit dark. Due to old-house electrical problems Sam explained to me, many of the light fixtures have only one or no working bulbs. Sam is a great host and very responsive to requests. I've asked him to address the following issues, which probably will be resolved for future guests: (1) no locks on guest rooms; (2) no mirrors above bathroom sinks; (3) no curtains/blinds/shades on bathroom windows; (4) weak wifi on ground floor.
