Check-in begins at 3 pm. We tried to check in at that time, so we could drop off our luggage and go hiking locally. The front doors were locked; nobody around. So we do our hike and come back at 5 pm. A young lady says she is "just watching" the front desk for manager, and she doesn't actually know how to process check ins. Tells us to come back in an hour. So we wander around town, and come back. After waiting 20 more minutes, a very surly manager shows up. He checks us in, but tells us room hasn't been cleaned yet. Tells us to come back in an hour. So we cool our heels at the fast-food place next door, and watch as a cleaning lady-with her own vacuum-drives up and leaves after a little while. So at 7:20 pm, we can finally get into our room. Nobody at front desk then; and nobody at front desk in morning; just put key cards in a box. There were no vending machines. What we infer from all this is that they cannot afford maid service except in rooms that will actually be used that night; and that they didn't pay the vendors so the drink/snack machines got pulled. Room was threadbare. Only 2 pillows, both very small and very lumpy. This hotel will probably be out of business soon. I noticed that from the time we made our reservation (7 mo. in advance) to our stay, their reviews have dropped drastically. Sadly, there are few other choices in this town...but din't choose this one!
