It was cheap and by the beach, so I was willing to lower my expectations since they had a great location. However, management tacked on a much higher bill than what they disclosed through Hotels.com, which would have affected my choice to stay here. The final bill was comparable to a nicer hotel. Ouch.
With the nicer hotel filter in mind, here are some notes.
What went well:
- Location was good! I liked how accessible the beach was.
- Unit was clean and decently kept. Had a rustic charm to it.
What could be improved:
- Unit had no A/C (expected) or fans (unexpected). Not terrible, since it's by the ocean and you do have breezes, but they also have no window screens. You'll have to balance comfort with bugs, especially on summer nights. Bathrooms also have no fans, so you *have* to leave the windows open in there so that it dries out and doesn't get moldy.
- Curtains were largely perfunctory and thin. You don't realize how badly you miss blackouts in a room until you don't have them, and that morning sun is *intense*.
- Mattresses were old, thin, stained, and in one case, canted to one side, so that effort had to be taken to not roll off the bed. Could use a refresh and some waterproof covers.
- It's not clear from the listings which units have the balconies. Both listings say "Beach view", but the unit I was in was in was on the back of the building, which I suppose is a beach view at an angle by sheer technicality? But that's not really in the spirit of a "beach view".
