The high point was that the staff was absolutely amazing. Friendly, helpful, efficient, and kind.
The bad: Our room was hot and stuffy. When we asked at the front desk, we were told the air conditioning was shut off. (Why?!? We were given no reason.) Inside, it was 80 degrees and very humid. We tried sleeping with the window open, but the noise was so loud, being on the corner of the market, we could not sleep. When we asked for a fan, we were told there were none.
This is why I give a poor overall rating, because while a nice place, with nice people, there was zero effort to make up more comfortable. I know there were empty rooms, yet we were not offered one. We weren't given a good explanation of why the aircon was turned off.
Aren't the hotel staff aware of the discomfort of the shoulder seasons? Maybe not. I thought I read the hotel was family-managed, but yet I saw front desk employees leaving for the night.
Isn't the Aircon being off a matter of flipping a breaker? I cannot imagine that they drained the pipes for winter when it was 80 degrees....
What I do know is that it was my first time in Venice, and I didn't sleep well or enjoy my visit because I could not get comfy. It was expensive and highly disappointing...
