I booked the Nylon Hotel because it's what I would call a 'backpacker's hotel,' even though I am not a backpacker. I was only in Mandalay for 24 hours, and I had certain priorities: I wanted to see certain sights in that short timeframe, I needed to arrange a ferry ticket to Bagan the next day, and I didn't want to spend a lot of time doing logistical things (e.g. looking for a place to eat breakfast, rinse out a few clothes, look for a great, economical tour guide, etc.) The Nylon Hotel fit the bill. The rooms were very basic (no views), the breakfast had a surprisingly large number of fresh tasty options, they booked me on a great ferry to Bagan (on MGRG Express) for the next day, and set me up with a wonderful motorbike guide (Mr. Miu). No problems with air-con. Wifi was spotty (went through a lot of wifi passwords), but not as bad as I had read it would be in Myanmar. Everything was easy. The staff were cordial and efficient. Note: the Nylon Hotel is now actually 2 hotels. The old one (on the corner) doesn't have an elevator, according to the online reviews I read.. The new one, a few doors down, has an exterior sign identifying it as The New Nylon Hotel, and an elevator. My hotel confirmation was for "The Nylon Hotel" so I first went to the old hotel, but they escorted me to the new one.
