The key to enjoying Treetops is to step back in time and embrace the nostalgic feel and slightly faded glory. It is to re-live a time when not every hotel was 5*, plastic and sang "jambo bwana" at every mealtime. Its a place to revel in the idiosyncrasies of a hotel built on stilts years ago. It has a fantastic location on the edge of the Aberdares National Park (entrance fee separate) overlooking Mount Kenya and a watering hole. The rooms are large and well kept with lovely wooden creaky floors. The place reeks of yesteryear with pictures and royal memorabilia on every wall. Yes the food is average, the dining area has bulbs missing, and not all facilities are up to date, but don't resist it, its a treehouse in a game park, go with it!
The night time viewing from the lodge balcony and windows is great, with Amos the night watchman buzzing rooms when rhinos, elephants or other animals approach. Fantastic to spend a night on a trip north of Nairobi.
