We stayed at the Altavista hotel in mid April, when a large group of us (20) were there for a medical mission. The property is located about a 10-15 minute walk from downtown Moyobamba. There is no formal security, but there is a locked gate for cars and people entering, and you must be buzzed in. We felt very safe there and in Moyobamba in general. The grounds are pretty, sprawling, with a beautiful view of a valley when sitting by the pool. Down a long path toward the pool you find a sports court with a paddle and basketball court (rims about 8 feet, no nets and crooked). Pool is nice. No jacuzzi.
Rooms are decent and clean with high vaulted ceilings. Not much amenities in the room. A small table and side chair is there. TVs in every room with a lot of channels, picture a bit grainy, bathrooms fine. Half our group did not have hot water for much of the trip, although my shower in room 110 was always hot.
Food was decent. Breakfast every morning consisted by of fruits, breads, eggs made to order and things like sausages or plantains. Staff was kind enough to prepare at 6:45AM for us as we had to leave early on most days.
One issue we had was slow service, taking 1.5 hours to prepare dinner or 45 minutes for pisco sours. We ended up deciding to eat elsewhere on most nights or get drinks on our own because of this.
In the end— it’s a fine hotel with clean rooms and friendly staff. Good for groups who just need to eat breakfast together and don’t need amenities
