We usually stay at another hotel across the street when visiting Springerville. Rates increased, and the EconoLodge's reviews increased in recent months, so we thought we'd give it a try. It was half the cost of our usual place. The owner was polite and friendly while checking us in. We had two rooms for 3 people, for 2 nights. When we got to our room it was clean, but the condition was not on par with the cleanliness—beds, sinks & baths were stained. But the room was clean and it was dark outside and we were tired. As we settled in, we discovered the two nuts that hold down the toilet seat were both missing. When sat upon, it slid sharply to one side or the other. My wife almost fell to the floor. Showers were a bigger problem: the water kept changing temps quite a bit, and quickly. It was a plumbing problem. (I maintain plumbing for 4 houses and have install and fixed shower plumbing.) I asked the owner for a new room and he asked for a chance to fix the shower. OK. When we returned 11 hours later neither the shower nor the toilet was repaired. The owner said his guy repaired the shower but forgot about the toilet. Untrue. The shower problems were still present. He argued with me and actually said “Maybe you don’t know how to use that kind of shower?” Unbelievable. The carpet on the walkway was filthy. In one spot there was vomit that did not get cleaned the entire 3 days we were there. Next time we will pay more and stay where we usually stay.
