Finding the right building was tough, but the staff was helpful. Security doors and card access felt odd for a hotel but made sense for a college dorm. Surprisingly, rooms were available in summer. Campus is huge; better signage needed. The dorm room was basic but spacious with a kitchen, TV, and comfortable seating. Coffee service was inconsistent and inconvenient. No coffee maker, hairdryer, or clock in the room. Overall, great value for a basic stay. Don't expect hotel luxury, but the staff was friendly and accommodating.
My advice if you stay here would be to bring a small coffee maker and a clock for your room. The place is very quiet, and I almost thought I was the only person staying on my floor. There are no ice machines on-premise, but bring a bag of ice as there is a freezer. The fridge is a standalone so lots of room. No stove, just a microwave. Overall rating is a 1-star hotel with a 5-star rating. As for the previous comments about the smell, it does have an institutional smell but not that unpleasant. Last thoughts for Fanshawe, get fitted sheets, it is a must. Beds were clean and comfortable, but waking up on the mattress protector was not fun. Great job to the Fanshawe students who worked there. I will be back. For the price you can't go wrong.
