To begin, let's start by saying I am fluent in Nepali and all of my conversation happened in Nepali, not English.
We checked in and let the staff know that we had an additional person. They checked back and said that they didn't have a bigger room for us. We understood and suggested that we all share the room. They offered to provide something to put on the floor, so our +1 could sleep on the floor. Moments later, they told us that they couldn't give us any extra blankets, pillows or floor covering, as they didn't have any.
They told us it would be 50% more to add one person, even though that offered nothing for him. I told them that this wrong and inappropriate. They immediately retorted that they had to pay extra for the power and the water that we use., They had no hot water, and on one took a shower. They had 2 outlets in the room, and all we used them for was charging cell phones.
50% more....really! Had we any other choice, we would have taken it. Instead, we just paid the 50% extra.
My sister (who also speaks Nepali) did some Q and A. The building is owned by a tibetian who rents it out to the current people who use it as a hotel. Those people aren't Tibetan. They were looking to make some $ money without doing any work to get the money. I was upset, to say the least, on the guy on the floor had a few sarcastic comments about what he got for his extra $.
We were exploited. I would never go back there.
