Shambolic check-in experience. The door was locked when I got there. They seem to have some sort of camera next to the door but no one opened it after I tried and failed to enter. I called the phone number on the listing to get a recorded message saying they were open 9am-5pm Monday to Friday. It was Saturday. Several minutes later a security guard was out the front of the property. I called after him as he re-entered, even addressing him as ‘sir’ and he was incredibly rude, not even turning to face me and mumbling something. I guess I was fortunate he came outside to allow me to get inside at all.
The shared toilet ran out of toilet paper and there was no more handy. It was replenished by the next morning.
Breakfast is 8am-10am every day but I can’t comment on that as I had to leave very early.
The room itself was fine and as expected, but it was uncomfortably warm for some reason despite the visible radiator not being switched on.
If you’re going to market a university halls of residence as a cheaper alternative to hotels, when the students are not there, you really need a much better check-in experience than this. Have the door unlocked during daylight hours maybe, or at least pay attention when people are trying to enter. The security guard needs to be told not to be rude to paying customers.
