I booked a deluxe room, King size bed and a view of the Park as it was my Wedding Anniversary. I was allocated a small room, no park view and a small double bed. The room was on the ground floor, next to the hotel entrance and with the reception desk outside the door. It could not have been further from the luxury I had been expecting - it was noisy and intrusive.
The hotel explained that the error had occurred between Expedia's (Hotels.com) system and theirs and that, as the hotel was full, there was nothing they could do about it. I explained that it was a special occasion and though the staff were sympathetic, there was nothing to be done. They sent champagne to the room and offered a voucher for a replacement stay any time in the next year. I have yet to receive the voucher, though I look forward to a better experience next time.
I do not book hotels in order that I can have arguments with the proprietors - it is very stressful and unwelcome. My anniversary was spoiled and that is non-recoverable, despite the best efforts of the staff who had to deal with the fall-out of the mistake.
