We had been to the hotel about 10yrs ago and loved it & on my husband's 45th birthday this wkend, decided to go again.
Such a terrible decision on my part. The greatness and standards of the hotel had dropped significantly that i am appalled it has the rating it sits with!
We did not receive the pincode for accessing the game lodge. The reception both in the area as well as in the resort is non-existent and as we reached the gate, we could not call as we had no reception. After numerous attempts of switching off and on the phone, finally able to get access and called the number by the gate. That was the first of many terrible experiences.
We were shown our room which was lovely, but then told that water was chargeable. What 5* establishment charges water?! The manager said she understands and would exclude it off our bill.
That evening the shower hear was spraying water everywhere, but that was least of the shower problems. We were unable to lower the hot water temperature and ended up rinsing the soap suds with cold water.
We mentioned this to the manager and she attempted to assist, unfortunately for the rest of the 3 day weekend, we were forced to shower with cold water as the temperature would not balance itself out.
That night, we discovered the mattress was the most uncomfortable bed we had ever slept on - i woke up with the worst backache ever (had to attend a physio on Tuesday morning as I was in too much pain).
At checkout, we were billed for the water!?
