Arrived to check in, waiting in the lobby for 10 minutes, pressed the bell button to no answer. Call the number on the glass, told me they’re assisting another guest but they would call the property. More time passes and the security guard walked in, said nothing and sat on his phone. We stood there awkwardly til he barely looked up at us to mumble “what do you want?”. My partner said we were trying to check in, and the guy just mumbled again. My partner asked if he worked here. No response - stood up, walked to the back to tell the guy that had been sitting back there the entire time that we were here. This guy was barely coherent, I had to explain to him three times that I already had booked a room online and he kept asking “so you want to buy a room tonight?”. He managed to look me up, I gave him my ID and he gave me a room key. I asked for my ID back but he wouldn’t give it to me until I checked my room (?) staircase and hallway were very poorly lit. I open the door that reads “no smoking” to a room that REEKS of cigarettes. I know what to expect from motels, but this was atrociously dingy. There wasn’t even toilet paper. I walked back down to the lobby, told him we wouldn’t be staying, and hopped over to the motel across the street. Never had to write a bad review in my life. I felt unsafe enough to seek out last minute accommodation changes at 3AM after a 13 hour drive. I need a full refund.
