My wife & I drove from Anchorage to Homer, Alaska and booked a room at Beluga Lake Lodge. We immediately had a problem with the desk clerk. He gave me a paper to sign & explained we would be held accountable for stolen towels, stolen blankets, damage to the room, etc. We were required to sign the paper before he would rent us the room. My wife said we needed to see the room before we signed the paper. He refused to show us the room. I asked why. He said āLiabilityā. Liability? To view a room we were just told we would be held accountable for any damage to the room but he wonāt show us the room? We would have left but he had our credit card information and would charge us for the room. He finally showed us the room. I noted damages on the paper we were required to sign.
The next day we roamed around Homer and returned to the hotel around 2 pm to find we were locked out of our room. The desk clerk told me checkout time was at 11 am. I thought I booked 2 nights but was told I booked only one night. The desk clerk had listed us on the ādo not rentā list and said he wanted us out of āhis hotelā. He unlocked the room, I loaded our belongings into our car, turned in the key cards, and asked him to check the room for damages because I didnāt want any surprises. He refused to look at the room. I requested the owner or manager & was told neither was available. The desk clerk said āGet out of my hotel or I will call the cops".
