My wife and I stayed here on our wedding night eleven years ago. So we were very excited to stay again on our anniversary. As the hotel team had really looked after us previously.
Sadly the stay did not live up to our expectations. Although the venue is still incredibly charming, it is now slightly run down and has the vibe of being for sale.
There was piano music being played on a loop through their speaker system. Which was audible in our room. This was fine on check in, but not in the middle of the night.
At breakfast, forks and spoons were the only cutlery out. When we asked the lady on reception for knives she looked at us like we were from another planet.
There are busts of Aristotle, Socrates, the Buddha and the owner on the entrance pillars. In fairness, I've never stayed at hotels run by any of the other three, but this one was a disappointment.
