My first visit to the Asia was 1993 and I have been a regular visitor since. I loved the hotel, its location, staff, ambiance, food etc. My last visit was in 2018, this the 1st since Covid. What a disappointment. I had read the reviews and the hotel had been updated. That is not entirely true. Ground level has been completely changed from a bright welcoming place to like entering a dungeon. It is so dark and a constant smell of sewage. We had a drink once and needed the torch on our phone to see the menu. The concierge team were excellent but the reception team while helpful were unfriendly and uninviting. We had an executive room. There was absolutely no update since my previous visits. Furniture old, badly marked, stains on the carpet, fridge very old. I dread to think what a standard room must be like. This is no longer a 4star hotel. You have to pay a deposit of 1,000Bh on arrival which you are told will not be returned for 45 days after departure. (Pay cash if you can as this will be returned to you when leaving), I needed to print a ticket, 2 pages for which I was charged.
My sister and I were there for 5 nights left for 5 and returned for 3. The room on the 2nd visit was even worse. The fridge should be condemned it was so rusty and we were over a generator so no sleep at all. Changed room next day and we were upgraded to a superior room which was absolutely no different from the executive room other than it was quieter.
Breakfast was good.
Such a shame.
