We went to help with hurricane cleanup. First off we were priced gouged, $130 a night for this place? Not worth more than $30. Our first room we couldn’t even get into because the lock was broken. Our next room had a bed, a broken foldaway that wasn’t fit to sleep on, and a broken couch. Half the stuff in the little kitchen area was broken. When my daughter went to take a shower she was greeted with a huge cockroach falling out of one of the towels and chasing her. At this point we were done, but there were no other hotels open… we asked for yet another room, and got one. This one smelled like meth had been cooked in it. The blankets had weird brown stains on them. The sheets and blankets had cigarette burns on them too. The toilet was filthy and no one was willing to sit on it. The shower was so dirty that you’d get dirtier taking a shower than when you started. The beds were uncomfortable, and squeaked constantly. Let’s not forget that the entire complex stunk of weed, and people were lighting up joints in front of me and my kids. They offered a free breakfast… but after everything else we suffered through, I was not confident in the food that would be produced and offered. I would never stay here again. I would rather go back to Afghanistan and live in a tent with 30 other people in close quarters for a month than stay another night here.
