First and foremost Mad Monkey Bangkok is a great hostel to meet people. For this stay however it was a short one night stay, from midnight until 7am. I arrived at 23:44 and two women were checking into a dorm in front. The entire process took some 16 minutes and I couldn’t fathom what was so slow; the guy kept doing other things.
He then proceeds to offer them welcome drinks (bar is shut) and queries leaving passports or 250THB for towels and 250THB each for keys as a deposit or a passport.
Anyhow I’m eventually served - and again the entire process takes an age. No welcome drink offered (he knew not if my early departure) and it’s again 1000 THB or a passport for deposit. I’m solo, so surely 500 THB. Between this he keeps checking emails, card receipts from printers etc and not actually serving me.
I get to the room, it’s clean and comfortable but the AC is very slow to work; cooking the room from 29 on arrival to only 25 by 3am. It’s on max.
I won’t stay here again, or at least in that room, but I’ll visit Mad Monkey for sure again.
Check out was comparatively a breeze.
