We didn’t actually make it. Had a reservation, confirmed that we would be able to check in late because our flight landed after midnight. But, when we got in and called for the shuttle, they told us they were overbooked and couldn’t honor the reservation. Spent over an hour with the hotels.com customer service only for them to tell us, yes, the hotel was overbooked, no they couldn’t find us an alternative, but not to worry they’ll cancel our reservation at no charge to us. Really? You’re not going to charge us for a service you didn’t actually provide. That’s great. We spent the night on a dirty airport floor. I got 3 hours of sleep before I could pick up my car from the dealership where it was being worked on. And then I had to stay awake enough to drive 4 hours home.
I do not want to book a room for a chance that I might get a place to sleep. That is absurd. I reserve a room, I expect it to be reserved. Especially since they will charge me regardless of whether I show up or not. They charge late cancellation fees too. I wish I could charge a fee for them canceling on me at 1am and leaving me stranded at the airport with my daughter.
