We visited St Louis for a family Spring Break trip and chose the Pear Tree based on central location to attractions and reviews mentioning it being a good choice for families. The location is ok but not exactly what I was expecting - walking distance to Union Station but everything else required a quick drive, not really any other restaurants or shops in immediate neighborhood. I do understand why it is marketed as a family friendly hotel - pool is small but clean, complimentary breakfast was decent, and complimentary soda and popcorn was a nice perk. However, it is an old hotel that is in desperate need of repairs and updates. Our regular 2 queen bed room was decent size and surface level clean but there were extensive stains and damage to the carpets, walls, shower, doors, and tile floors. The room also smelled of old smoke. There was no fan in the tiny bathroom so any hot water being run for any amount of time made the entire room unbearably humid. Unfortunately, we also didn’t have the best customer service. We called down for extra pillows before bed and were told they would be up in 10 minutes. After 40 minutes with no pillows, we called down again and were again told they would be there in 10 minutes. After another 30 minutes with no pillows, my husband went down to the front desk to ask for them. The 2 attendants at the desk were sitting there chatting so he insisted he would wait until they brought out the pillows for him. Would likely not choose to stay here again
