A very pleasant place in the Taunus, northwest of Frankfurt. Our goal was to visit Braunfels. www.hotels.com said that Braunfels is only 14 miles from Braunfels. I suppose this might be true if we had our own personal helicopters, but we had to drive, so it was more like 20 miles (35 minutes) through interesting villages and peaceful countryside. We used Gasthof Pension Sonnenberg as our jumping-off point to visit Wetzlar and Braunfels, and it suited us fine. The breakfast is standard German hotel breakfast...good coffee, breads, cereals, cold cuts, cheeses, and eggs (scrambled and hard boiled). The setting is pretty and peaceful. The rooms are good. The staff are friendly.
Our only point to raise: We were traveling with two young men, so we got a room for four: two twin beds and a bunk bed. The bunk bed had been slightly shortened to fit in the space. Our two young men are over six feet tall. They were unable to stretch out without hanging off the end. But the mattresses were comfortable, and they slept fine when they curled up just slightly. The beds were fine for normal-sized people.
