We spotted Callander Meadows on a previous visit to Callander and decided to use it as a stopover on our next drive back from the Scottish Highlands. The place is a restaurant with rooms, so it was our intention to eat there too, as the reviews were good. However on arrival we were told the restaurant was closed due to a family celebration (18th), so we had to traipse the streets for an alternative (would have been courteous to have been informed beforehand). We were also warned that there may be some noise around 1am as the family and friends returned from the party.
We were shown to our room (2), which was adequate, but would benefit from some attention. (Cracked WHB, hole in the wall where the TV bracket was, loads of dead midges in the shower!)
They all left at about 18.30 and we had the place to ourselves - peace & quiet! But NO... within 15mins we had a barking dog, then another dog, then a loudly meowing cat!! And they barked relentlessly until the family returned at about 12.40am... who were decidedly quieter than the dogs!! Needless to say, it wasn't the most restful of evenings, and didn't prepare us well for the long drive ahead. ;o((
That said, the bed was comfy, the breakfast was yummy, and the host gave a warm welcome.
