Neapolitan Charm within the Old Quarter
The San Mattia is in the.heart of the old Spanish Quarter with all its attendant chaos and liveliness. It is the Naples everyone thinks of when considering this city. The property is in a centuries old building which, like all in the area looks onto a very narrow but relatively quiet street. The only drawback can be the fairly long uphill if you have mobility issues and the sometimes frightening moto activity, but it is part of the Naples charm.
The San Mattia is historic 17th century with modern amenities. Simple in style and pleasantly charming. The hosts, Giovanni and Maurizio are very accommodating and helpful and always available via app to lend a hand.
The breakfast is Italian, so cold, and always served outside the room and early. My only wish would have been for more coffee.
In short, this is a lovely niche in which to experience the real Napoli with everything within good walking distance. The metro is an easy walk to get you to other parts of the city and you are only steps from the main shopping area on the via Toledo.
If you wish to have an authentic Neapolitan experience, this is an excellent place to stay.
