I recently stayed at the Travelodge by Wyndham Williams Grand Canyon, and unfortunately, it was one of the most disappointing hotel experiences I’ve ever had.
To start, the condition of the rooms and facilities was very poor. The room desperately needed updates—there was flaking paint on the bathroom ceiling, paint sprayed on the towel rack and mirror, and visible evidence of prior attempts to paint over flaking areas on the bathroom walls. The bathroom also had no vent or screen on the window, which meant we couldn’t leave it open without letting in bugs, causing the room to become uncomfortably steamy after showers. To make matters worse, the bathtub was dirty upon arrival, and I had to purchase Clorox spray to clean it myself.
The hallways were equally unpleasant, with trash left behind and carpets that had massive tears. There was even construction dust in the toilet paper holder. Housekeeping services were unreliable—on the second day of our stay, they finally came in to vacuum and left fresh towels, but they didn’t take away the old towels or trash unless we placed them outside the room ourselves. The hotel phone in our room didn’t work, so I had to use my cellphone to call the front desk for extra towels and pillows, only to be met with indifference. We did eventually receive towels, but they only had one extra pillow in the entire hotel, which was shocking.
