7 Best Things to Do After Dinner in Bophut

Coco Tam's is a fun beach bar on the western outskirts of Fisherman’s Village. With beanbags on the beach, swing seats at the bar, cabanas, shisha and a large projector screen, it’s a delightful place to relax in Bophut.

The venue is very much an open-air arrangement, with only a couple of palm-thatch buildings to find once you enter the well-maintained area and a neat little garden separating it from Bophut Beach Road. In the late evenings, this easy-going rustic beach bar is often packed with people nodding to chillout tunes.

Karma Sutra in Bophut is unreservedly all-out retro hippy chic. The French-owned bar has 2 branches that flank both sides of the entrance to Fisherman’s Village. Chunky Indonesian wooden furniture, cool sounds, and muted lights decorate both venues.

Karma Sutra is a great people-watching spot with good views of the sea and pier. You can find a full menu (charmingly presented as a newspaper) and an extensive drinks list. 

Emerald Irish Pub offers draft Guinness and Kilkenny, as well as local beers. The fan-cooled pub features historic photos of old Dublin, Guinness barges and whiskey ads on the walls. Some of the walls have bare bricks, lending the place a suitable rough-and-ready feel.

The pub's terrace views, like those of many Bophut bars and restaurants, take in Koh Phangan and fishing fleets that pass by in the early evening. The Emerald showcases sports events on 3 screens and live music on occasion. If you're in Bophut on St. Patrick's Day, make a beeline to join in the celebrations. 

Frog and Gecko is a rather rustic pub located along the main street of Fisherman’s Village in Bophut. It's been around since 2000, owned and managed by long-term expats Graeme and Raphaella. 

With lots of wooden chairs and tables and with views out to Koh Phangan, the resulting atmosphere is a mixture of tropical and laidback. It's busy on most nights, especially on Wednesdays when pub quizzes take place. Frog and Gecko has TVs airing live sports, a pool table, and a sound system playing ‘70s, brit pop, rock and punk music. 

Zazen is an award-winning restaurant that presents traditional Thai regional dishes with fine-dining touches. Part of the Zazen Resort, it's a beachside stroll away from the centre of Bophut, towards Maenam. Its French chef spares no effort in his quest for perfection, even growing his own herbs. The wine cellar has won awards in Thailand.

Décor is elaborate but not overdone, with Moroccan touches, Louis XVI-style furniture, and a state-of-the-art open kitchen. 

Secret Garden Restaurant is run by Chef Rik and his team. There’s daily a Thai and European/Mediterranean menu available from 8 am to 10 pm. You can enjoy live music during the Secret Garden Sunday Sessions. On these specials nights, the resort restaurant hosts beachside BBQs and special buffets. The clientele is more or less evenly split between tourists and expats. 

Samui Sunset Garden offers spectacular views in the evenings, thanks to its beachfront location. This bar is a popular stop-off point for those going to or returning from Koh Phangan. The staff are very friendly, the atmosphere mellow, and the music playlist leaning towards chill house. Prices are quite reasonable, so you'll see backpackers lounging on colourful beanbags.
