Liverpool Cathedral is a towering neo-Gothic structure dedicated to the Church of England and offering some of the highest Gothic arches in the world as well as a viewing tower. It's the seat of the Anglican Diocese of Liverpool and built on St James's Mount in the heart of the city centre.
The cathedral took over 70 years to fully erect and spans 189 metres in length (150 metres indoor). Its dimensions are vast, and it's one of the largest cathedrals in the world. It's also one of the very few cathedrals in the city of Liverpool and a major visitor attraction.

History of the Liverpool Cathedral
The Liverpool Cathedral's construction began in 1904 following an 1885 Act of Parliament authorising the project, and it wasn't completed until 1978. The first part of the building, the Lady Chapel, was consecrated and opened in 1910 and features a stained-glass mosaic of women who have contributed greatly to society. The mosaic is an attraction even today.
The World Wars hindered construction, but work slowly continued even beyond the death of original architect Giles Gilbert Scott in 1960. Finally, the building was opened and dedicated in October 1978 with Queen Elizabeth II in attendance. Today, it stands as a stunning example of neo-Gothic architecture.
